This program is for students who are seeking a career in the automotive repair industry. It offers a combination of self-guided, computer-aided instruction, guided instruction, and hands-on laboratory learning. Students will perform numerous repairs on a combination of training modules, practice, and live vehicles. All repairs and tasks will follow ASE guidelines to prepare students to become ASE certified in eight areas of repair. These areas are electronics and electrical systems; engine performance; suspension and steering; brakes; heating and air-conditioning; engine repair; manual transmissions and axles; and automatic transmissions. Students will then be encouraged to participate in the ASE testing process to obtain certifications in their area of interest. Additionally, students are required to complete 4 hours of additional documented E-learning per credit hour of enrollment outside of the classroom (in addition to homework, studying, and other regularly-assigned reading materials).
Upon completion of the program, the student will receive an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Automotive Technology. This degree, coupled with the ASE certifications, will enhance career opportunities in the automotive industry.
Preceding the AAS degree, students are afforded the opportunity to obtain a Certificate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology or Certificates of Proficiency.

There will be steady employment in the auto services industry due to the need for maintenance and repairs as car owners keep vehicles longer than in the past. Added to this is the need to replace retiring mechanics, rapidly changing hybrid-fuel technologies, as well as mandates for improved vehicle performance standards.
